Safety on Our Roads

road safety

January 12, 2016 //  by George Nice & Sons

In the construction industry, the discussion of safety is consistent. It is everywhere here. Safety meetings are held every month, and in addition, toolbox talks are handed out to reiterate relevant topics. But what about after the work is done? What about before it even begins?

At George Nice & Sons, our first concern IS the safety and well-being of our employees. But we have no control of what happens off of the jobsite. Our hope is that our message is influential not only on the jobsite, but also reflected in everyday life.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “There are more than 1,700 fatalities and 840,000 injuries yearly due to vehicle crashes off public highways.” In addition, the National Safety Council says traffic fatalities increased by 14% in 2015 alone.

We recently experienced the tragic loss of an employee. This young man was a father to a four year old child. This loss was sudden and unjust, but its impact should encourage us to reflect honestly on our daily activities. In memory of Spencer Garrett, we would like to urge all who read this post to remember how precious life truly is.

Please drive carefully.
