Arachnophobia is the technical term for an irrational fear of spiders. When you consider the size difference between a typical spider and your average human, it might seem odd that some people are frightened by them.
In the movie “Spiderman”, Peter Parker is bitten by a spider and gains superpowers. What are the chances today that a spider has the power to control a multi-million dollar project? A surprising 100%.
In Texas, a 15 million dollar project has hit the brakes due to the discovery of an immensely rare spider. So rare, in fact, it’s only been seen twice in about 30 years. It’s known as the Braken Bat Cave Meshweaver, it’s translucent, and has no eyes.
There is no projected restart date for the project, and it may be on hold indefinitely. U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials are working with the Federal Highway Administration to try to determine a way to relocate this spider without harming its habitat. Imagine something smaller than a penny directing the course of 15 million dollars and the progress of a project aimed at improving travel conditions for a large number of people.
Someone, take that spider to Vegas!
